Help us celebrate! The restoration of the W Townshend Stone Arch Bridge is Complete! Sunday November 3rd starting at 1:30 at the bridge on Back Windham Road.

Their combined patience, cooperation, energy, generosity, support, and extraordinary efforts have contributed to the restoration of one of Townshend’s unique historic treasures and extended its useful life for at least another hundred years.

Town of Townshend Accepts Bid for Restoration of West Townshend Stone Arch Bridge

On October 10, 2023, at its regular meeting, the Townshend Select Board voted to accept the bid of $736,200 from Brian Post, DSWA-GB Certified Master Craftsman, of Standing Stone, LLC, Chester, Vermont, for the restoration of the West Townshend Stone Arch Bridge. The project is being supported by a Save America’s Treasures matching grant of $221,000 administered by the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior; appropriations voted by the people of Townshend over the past five years; and private donations. Work is to begin in spring of 2024 and continue through the summer.

RFP to be issued for Stone Arch Bridge Restoration

INVITATION TO BID

On June 16, 2023, the Town of Townshend Select Board will start accepting bids from qualified contractors for the repair and restoration of the West Townshend Stone Arch Bridge located on Back Windham Road, TH#7.

The Contractor must hold a current DSWA(GB) Master Craftsman Certification and be qualified to develop a detailed written scope of work (in lieu of a full set of structural engineering plans and specifications) including photogrammetry or hand drawings paired with photographs which will ensure meeting the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.

Portions of this project are being funded by a Save America’s Treasures Grant through the Historic Preservation Fund, as administered by the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
