Voter Support Needed to Save W. Townshend Stone Arch Bridge

Included in the Warning for Townshend Town Meeting, Tuesday, March 5th, is Article X  calling  for $88,000 to be set aside for the repair of the West Townshend Stone Arch Bridge.

Voter approval of Article X is crucial to moving forward with urgently needed repairs.  If approved, it would provide the matching funds necessary for two very large State grants. It also would indicate the high degree of public support necessary for successful grant applications. Total cost of the West Townshend bridge repair is estimated at $283,000.

Not approving Article X in 2019 would delay the start of the project by at least a year and put a hold on any grant applications. It would also greatly increase the risk of structural failure and subsequent closure of this 108 year-old stone bridge at the heart of West Townshend’s Historic District still used for daily car and truck travel.
